Vidyo Launches VidyoWay for Free

Hot off the track from growing 80 percent last year, Vidyo (News - Alert) has launched a new multi-vendor and multi-party video conferencing solution for no money down, no payments for six years, and actually, no money at all, ever, since it’s free.
VidyoWay, the software-based, interoperable service, uses cloud-based meetings to connect Vidyo’s video conferencing systems with others, such as those from industry leaders such as Cisco (News - Alert) and Polycom, Microsoft Lync clients, mobile devices, or other H.323 or SIP-based room systems. Rather than using a directory of video endpoints, users can invite each other from their own address books, or join in using Vidyo’s Click-to-Connect capability.
With nearly 2,000 customers and 300 global resellers, Vidyo can afford to make VidyoWay available, mostly because it also serves an advertising purpose, acting as a video gateway to draw users to its VidyoConferencing system. One has to imagine they’re doing something right, with an 80 percent increase in revenue from 2010 to 20111, and a 90 percent increase in first quarter revenue year-over-year.
Of course, anything offered for free isn’t going to have all the capabilities of a paid version. Still, this seems like a great offering for people who have to juggle multiple video conferencing systems, and can save users the trouble of having to connect with people on Lync, Polycom software, and a mobile device at the same time. As we’ve seen from software like Skype (News - Alert), free conferencing software can still lead to profit, and if it gets more people interested in Vidyo’s other systems, then it seems like a win-win situation for Vidyo and users alike.
